Looking Back on 2025: A Year of VIDA

This year was a momentous one for VIDA San Antonio, which welcomed its 500th family into the community, broke ground on exciting amenities, and saw progress on several projects that have transformative potential for residents in the area.

From a variety of new housing options to University Health updates and more, take a look back at some of the big milestones that VIDA reached in 2025.

Potential Buyers Get First Look at VIDA Townhomes

This year brought a new, low-maintenance living option to VIDA and the Southside, with the completion of the community’s first townhomes. Built by Sitterle, a decorated local homebuilder, VIDA’s townhomes are the ideal blend of luxury and convenience, and the first offering of their kind in the area.

VIDA’s First Apartments Complete, and More Underway

In January, city and community leaders gathered at Los Arcos at VIDA, the community’s first apartment complex, to celebrate its grand opening. Los Arcos apartments are conveniently located along Zarzamora, near several regional employers.

With a luxurious pool, community lounge, cyber café, conference center, 24-hour gym, dog park, and more on the premises, Los Arcos residents enjoy a wide range of amenities along with convenient access to VIDA’s public parks and the Madla Greenway Trail.

Construction also began on Aspire at VIDA—the community’s second apartment complex, located directly across from Texas A&M-San Antonio. Aspire at VIDA will feature one- and two-bedroom garden-style apartments, along with several amenities including a pool, clubhouse, and dog park.

Park Dedicated to Honor Beloved Professor

This past March, a ceremony was held to dedicate VIDA’s second public park to Megan Wise de Valdez, a beloved biology professor and Chair of Natural Sciences at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Several students and peers voiced glowing support for Wise de Valdez, who helped build the university’s biology department from the ground up and has provided invaluable mentorship to aspiring scientists.

University Health Welcomes Its First Patients

This November, University Health Vida opened its doors to the community and served its first patient. The Vida clinic is the first building to open on the new, 68-acre University Health campus which includes the upcoming Palo Alto Hospital, bringing comprehensive health and wellness services to the region.

The new three-story facility features primary care providers, a wide variety of specialists, urgent care, pediatrics, women’s health services, and an entire floor devoted to mental and behavioral healthcare. It also includes an on-site laboratory, pharmacy, x-ray, and ultrasound clinics, as well as collaborative space that will host health education classes and workshops.

University Health’s Palo Alto campus also houses the headquarters for the Institute for Public Health, an initiative aimed at advancing health equity in Bexar County and beyond. The building even has touches of local culture, including a colorful tile mural created by born-and-raised Southside resident Louis Vega Treviño through University Health’s SaludArte: Art of Healing program.

Earlier this year, University Health held a beam-signing and topping-out ceremony to celebrate the completion of Palo Alto Hospital’s frame. Expected to open in 2027, the Palo Alto Hospital will be the first full-service hospital south of Interstate 410, bringing critical services to Southern Bexar County.

Looking Ahead to 2026

Next year, VIDA will break ground on Phase 5 of its development, which includes VIDA’s largest residential area. As part of Phase 5, the Madla Greenway Trail will also be expanded by another mile, providing even more recreation and exercise opportunities and connecting residents to more places throughout the community.

VIDA’s second public art piece, a sculpture created by Leticia Huerta, is set to be installed early next year as well. The new piece was inspired by nature and Leticia’s memories of growing up on the Southside.
