Looking for family-friendly fun around the Southside this summer? Check out a list of Southside summer activities that everyone can enjoy.
Hit the Links at Mission del Lago
Golf can be a great way to enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise, and spend quality time with the people close to you — whether you’ve logged countless hours on the course or never swung a club before.
With a location at Mission del Lago, On Par Golf also offers classes for beginners. They also have an indoor simulator that you can rent for individual practice or to entertain larger parties.
If you’ve got kids who are interested in golf, check out the Flamingo Club — a local nonprofit started by Ray Garza, a Harlandale alum who also taught and coached golf there. The Flamingo Club supports youth golf by helping kids obtain the equipment and course access they need to get started.
If you want to support their mission, you can donate directly on their website or shop at onpargolfapparel.com — all profits support the Flamingo Club.
Swim class at Southwest ISD Aquatic Center
While construction is well underway on VIDA San Antonio’s pool and clubhouse, they’re not expected to open until later this year. In the meantime, it might be a great chance to make sure your kids are well prepared to spend time at the pool.
The Southwest ISD Aquatic Center is less than a 15-minute drive from VIDA San Antonio, and they offer swim lessons for children ages 5 and up. For $50, you get eight 30-minute lessons, and there are several time slots to choose from.
Register by July 28 to participate in the August 4–14 program. The pool is also open to the community — check their calendar for full public hours.
Guided Bike Ride at the Mission Reach
Note: All participants must be at least 18 years of age and know how to ride a bike.
For adults or families with older kids, the San Antonio River Authority is offering a series of guided electric bike rides along the Mission Reach over the summer. It’s a great chance to learn about the ecosystem and cultural history of the Mission Reach while exploring the river and getting some exercise. Registration is required — check the Facebook events for registration links.
