VIDA Honors Chef Milas Williams with Street Naming

VIDA is honoring local artists, dancers, chefs, and more with street name dedications to ensure lasting recognition for their positive impact on San Antonio. This July, the community came together at Ana Park to honor the extraordinary Chef Milas Williams, a local chef with a deep-rooted commitment to giving back to his community. As the founder of the nonprofit World Lolei Inc., Chef Milas has left an incredible mark on San Antonio, encouraging San Antonio’s youth to consider new careers and creative outlets, and offering support to families in need.

A Passionate Chef with a Giving Heart

As a young man, Milas and his brother were growing up surrounded by violence, and were ultimately incarcerated. It was while in prison that Milas discovered culinary classes and began to see a path to a different future. When he was released, he enrolled in culinary school and recognized its ability to offer a ‘different option’ for many young men and women in similar situations. Reflecting on this period, Williams described it as a pivotal moment in his life that it has shaped the person he is today.

“I am motivated by the smiles of those whose lives we change and the positive trajectory their lives take.” – Chef Milas Williams

Chef Williams’ culinary journey began as a profound love for flavors, tastes, and the art of cooking. With dedication and relentless pursuit of success, he soon established himself as a prominent figure in San Antonio’s vibrant food scene. However, what truly sets Chef Milas apart is his unwavering commitment to giving back to the community that has nurtured his culinary dreams. Driven by the desire to make a lasting impact, Chef Milas seeks to provide others with the same opportunities for success that he himself has received from generous individuals in the past.

Spreading Love and Integrity at World Lolei Inc.

Driven by his belief in “loyalty over liberty equals integrity,” Chef Milas, alongside his brother, founded the non-profit organization World Lolei Inc. The organization’s mission goes beyond serving delectable dishes; it extends to uplifting the lives of aspiring young chefs and families in need. Through various initiatives, Chef Milas empowers young culinary enthusiasts by providing them with opportunities to learn, grow, and flourish. Additionally, World Lolei Inc. extends a helping hand to families facing challenges, ensuring they receive the resources and support they require during difficult times.

Recognizing San Antonio’s Greatness

The significance of this street dedication goes beyond just a name on a signpost. It serves as a reminder of his inspiring journey, his passion for culinary arts, and his dedication to creating positive change in the lives of others.

“The significance of acknowledging local artists is paramount and invaluable, as it affirms that their work is not in vain.” – Chef Milas Williams

Through the street dedication ceremony and the unveiling of Milas Lane, VIDA is not only honoring a remarkable chef but also affirming their commitment to recognizing and celebrating local talents that make a difference. As Chef Milas continues to inspire aspiring chefs and support families in need, his legacy will endure, leaving a lasting impression on the cultural tapestry of San Antonio.
