Southside San Antonio restaurants are well known as some of the best small-time cookeries in town. Many of them have been serving customers for more than 50 years, creating simple and traditional dishes that make you come back for more. We’re sharing a few of our favorites for inspiration.
The staple food style of southside San Antonio restaurants is by far Mexican food. These restaurants are some of the oldest standing buildings within the city, making southside a perfect place to experiment and find the best traditional Mexican food the city has to offer. Del Rio Tortilla Factory has been serving customers since 1974, just north of Palo Alto College. If you are looking for a simple grab-and-go kind of meal that you know will taste delicious, then this is the place you are looking for. Their barbacoa tacos are one of a kind and show off the unique and simple tastes of Mexican cuisine.
Continuing with the Mexican trend is Georgia’s Mexican restaurant. Similar to Del Rio Tortilla Factory, Georgia’s is a small southside San Antonio restaurant that has been up and running for a number of years within the San Antonio community. Located just off of Palo Alto Road, they serve breakfast and lunch plates with a unique blend of the Tex-Mex style. Their bacon & egg breakfast plate with added pancakes is one of the best ways to experience the unique Tex-Mex blend of food. Of the restaurants San Antonio southside has to offer, Georgia’s offers the most when it comes to the Tex-Mex style.
Rolando’s Super Taco is well known in the southside San Antonio restaurants for serving super-sized portions. Almost anything that you get off of their menu is sharable while maintaining a reasonable price. Of the southside San Antonio restaurants, they have some of the best Mexican lunch and dinner plates including the Guille’s Deluxe. The Guille’s Deluxe is a super enchilada plate with flautas, chalupas, a side taco, and two super tortillas.
Brenda’s Burgers is a specialty. They have been in business for over 30 years, offering their specialty Berry’s burger, junior menu, and create-your-own options. Coming fully loaded, the Berry’s Special is a handcrafted burger that no fast food or chain restaurant southside San Antonio can beat. Family owned for more than 30 years, Brenda’s is a southside staple.
If you are in Texas, barbeque is likely one of the most anticipated meals you can have. To emphasize this point, it’s common to see San Antonio restaurants throw in a rack of ribs or a ribeye steak on the menu even when they don’t specialize in barbeque. However, Robert’s BBQ is different as they specialize in their slow-cooked brisket and authentic barbeque cooking. Among San Antonio restaurants, Robert’s brisket and sausage plate is the perfect meal if you are craving that authentic Texas barbeque.
