This June, families gathered at Ana Park to celebrate three years since VIDA San Antonio welcomed its first residents to the community.
Residents of all ages came together to spend time, reflect on VIDA’s progress, and look forward to an exciting future. Local vendors served up smashburgers and paletas for everyone to enjoy. There was face painting and balloon art to entertain the kids, while an inflatable water slide provided a place for them to cool down.
In the past three years, VIDA has welcomed over 1000 residents and celebrated the grand opening of Los Arcos at VIDA, its first apartment complex, as well as the completion of its first townhomes. University Health has broken ground and made significant progress on two new transformative facilities: the VIDA Health Clinic opening this fall with primary and multi-speciality care, and the165-bed Palo Alto Hospital, planned to open in 2027. The community has also opened five parks and the first mile of trails.
Fiestas like these are meant to celebrate VIDA’s growth and accomplishments, but they’re more than that. They’re another opportunity for residents to meet, mingle, and build community among each other.
Creating space for community cultura
It’s often said that San Antonio is a big city with a small-town vibe. That feeling is especially apparent on the Southside, where it’s common to find families who lived there for multiple generations.
The wide range of housing options available at VIDA San Antonio offers an opportunity for residents like Brittany R. — who grew up on the Southside and still has friends and family nearby — to join a flourishing community in a place where they already have deep roots.
“I’ve always known the Southside like the back of my hand. My grandmother is just four minutes away, and my parents are eight. Having that kind of support system so close—it means everything. That’s why VIDA San Antonio was the perfect choice for me.”
-Brittany R., VIDA Homeowner
Places like Ana Park, the Madla Greenway, and the future town center create spaces for residents to meet and gather. They create the backdrop for new friendships close to work and school.
VIDA’s residents participate in the planning and hosting of events, and small groups like the walking group, Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Decorating Contest and much more – bringing a puro Southside energy to the neighborhood and making it a welcoming place for all.
