As the school year begins in San Antonio, many students want to find the perfect study spot. Whether you’re studying at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), Texas A&M University-San Antonio, or many of the other universities and colleges throughout the city, finding the right study spot can help you get into the right mindset and get your work done while enjoying the city.
Coffee shops are a go-to, and there are plenty to pick from along the south part of the city. There are also options in cafés, libraries, and more. The right food, drink, and environment can help support you in your education goals while being fun, too.
Coffee Shops
There are dozens of coffee shops throughout the Southside in San Antonio, although some are better than others for doing some required reading, reviewing lecture notes, or writing a paper. Some great study spot coffee shops in South San Antonio include:
Tandem San Antonio
Tandem San Antonio has a unique and fun atmosphere paired with great coffee and a variety of breakfast and lunch foods. It’s located on 310 Riverside Drive and is open at 8 a.m. every day of the week and stays open late. With indoor and outdoor seating and a location that is usually less crowded, this is an ideal place to get some work done, as long as you’re done with it before open mic comedy night.
Casa Pink Studio Coffee
Casa Pink Studio Coffee is a vibrant and cute location filled with local art and lots of space to sit and enjoy the morning with your week’s notes. It’s open in the mornings and early afternoons from Thursday to Monday at 144 Zapata Street.
Estate Coffee Company
Estate Coffee Company is located on 1320 East Houston Street, A101. It offers a quieter spot with high-quality coffee and is open at 7 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. on weekends, until mid-afternoon most days. The ambiance is beautiful but simple. If you need a less distracting space to get through your assignments, this may be the ideal spot for you.
Sit & Sip With Me
Sit & Sip With Me is a relaxed coffee shop that also serves tea, with lots of space to sit.
This spot is better equipped for your offline work, as it doesn’t have WiFi. If you’ve got required reading for your classes, a traditional art project, or another hands-on, off-computer project, this may be the perfect atmosphere to remove your distractions and focus on that work. The shop is open at 7 a.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday, closing in the early- to mid-afternoon. It’s located on 3244 Mission Road.
San Antonio Gold
San Antonio Gold has a fun atmosphere, offering coffee and pastries at a variety of seating options. It’s on 1913 S Flores Street #A, and is open from 6:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekdays, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.
Poetic Republic Coffee Roasters
Poetic Republic Coffee Roasters offers a stunning and delightful atmosphere with a lot of lovely seating and exceptional quality coffee. This micro-roastery makes its coffee in-house. It creates a work environment and is a great place to review your notes in a lovely location. It’s open at 7 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. on weekends, closing at 5 p.m. every day, and is found on 2330 S Presa Street.
Vamos Coffee Co.
Vamos Coffee Co. boasts a friendly staff and unique coffee options, as well as tea, tacos, and a bakery item. With a small but cozy atmosphere and a few fun seating options, this may be the perfect location for your study session. It’s located on 2555 Castroville Road #109 and is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, opening an hour later and closing an hour earlier on weekends.

Halcyon Southtown
Halcyon Southtown is a coffee house in the mornings and afternoons that transforms into a lounge, offering coffee, drinks, and a variety of food. It offers a great space for getting through some work with much-needed calories. It’s located on 1414 S Alamo Street #101 and is open from 8 a.m. until midnight every day.
Trailblazer Café
The Trailblazer Café is inside the Stinson Municipal Airport, offering a unique atmosphere and lots of food options. It’s open from 8 a.m. until the evening or night every day except Mondays.
Corner Coffee and More
With exceptional coffee, breakfast foods, and dessert, Corner Coffee and More has a cute diner-esque interior and is located on 2720 Pleasanton Road. It is open at 6:30 a.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. on weekends, closing at 3 p.m. every day.
Libraries
For a class study spot, there are several libraries in San Antonio and in Southside. Although you can’t order food here, they do offer you a no-cost option for studying. Some library options include:
- UTSA Downtown Library in the Downtown Campus
- Bibliotech South, an all-digital public library on 3505 Pleasanton Road
- Mission Branch Library, across from the World Heritage Center

- Pandora’s Bookstore and Coffee Bar, a cozy location open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Chica’s Bakery y Mas, open from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. every day on Zarzamora Street
- Boba Tea, at 3850 S New Braunfels Avenue, #108, also offering smoothies and snacks
- Hash Vegan Eatery, with an artful environment on S. Flores Street
