Summer vacation is right around the corner, and with it comes a long list of festivals, art shows and outdoor events that make San Antonio come alive from daytime into night. Locals know that you don’t have to go downtown to have fun; the Southside is full of exciting events. From taking in the arts at Blue Star Arts Complex to nature events along the Mission Reach of the Riverwalk, the Southside of San Antonio has something for everyone.

Blue Star Arts Complex

When it comes to all things art, you can take it all in at the Blue Star Arts Complex. There is always something to see or do when visiting this Southtown gem. Visitors can experience a wide array of art galleries and studios. Bar 1919 and Joe Blue’s are great bars to sit back and enjoy craft or casual cocktails. If beer is more your style, Blue Star Brewing Company has revolving tap options. You won’t want to miss the amazing artists that are showcased on each First Friday of the month and throughout the summer.

Confluence Park

One of the best parts of the Southside is all the natural beauty. With over three acres of pathways, there is always something to enjoy at this park. Tourists venture here because the park connects the four San Antonio missions. It is also where several biking and hiking trails start. For those who like to seize the day, all-level yoga practice is available every Sunday at 10 a.m. And don’t miss the all new quarterly performance series Cochineal that blends nature and arts.

PicaPica Plaza

PicaPica Plaza is much more than an indoor shopping mall. In the heart of the Southside, this mall offers over 100 unique shops, amazing food, live entertainment, and a trampoline park. There is always something to do and it’s a great place to spend a day with family and friends while enjoying the rich culture of the Southside community.

Mission Open Air Market

You’ve never experienced a flea market quite like this one; this jumbo flea market spreads over 50 acres. With over 2,000 vendors, you’ll be able to find anything from antiques and collectibles to crafts and jewelry. It is easy to get lost for hours as you wander the open-air market and enjoy the concessions and local shopping. Mission Open Air Market is open on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 6 a.m. – 5 p.m.
