Student Apartments and Housing

TAMUSA  is keenly aware of the importance of providing quality apartments, dorms, and other safe housing options directly through the university.

The most exciting among these new projects is the expansion of student apartments in San Antonio. In addition to existing student housing at Esperanza Hall, the university has plans to expand housing options for students. The Texas A&M System Board of Regents recently approved a $32.5 million student housing project at the TAMUSA campus, pursuant to an amendment of the Fiscal Years 2022-2026 capital plan.

With the growing demand for quality student housing, the San Antonio Student Housing Phase II project aims to provide 312 new student beds, along with some new apartments designed for staff or faculty. The nearly 100,000-square-foot facility will include four-bed/double occupancy suites and two-bed/single occupancy suites, as well as lounges, laundry facilities, and trash facilities on each floor.

Healthcare Hub

TAMUSA and University Health have come together to create a new healthcare hub in South Bexar County, providing much-needed healthcare services to the local community. The hub will feature a medical clinic staffed by University Health physicians and will offer a wide menu of services designed to cater to the unique needs of the community, such as:

  • Cardiac
  • General Medicine
  • Orthopedics
  • General Surgery
  • Obstetrics

This partnership will also create opportunities for students in the healthcare field. One of those will be the addition of a new genome research unit, as well as a new public health graduate degree. It’s an exciting collaboration that will benefit university students and the local community.

Recreational Developments

TAMUSA  is also very interested in investing in recreational facilities to enhance student life, improve community health, and provide new opportunities for recreation in the local community. The university has recently released renderings of a new 22,300-square-foot recreation center and gym that promises to be a state-of-the-art facility. The center will include:

  • A fully equipped fitness area (weightlifting, cardio, etc.)
  • Basketball courts
  • Locker rooms

This facility will also create opportunities for meetings, camps, classes in kinesiology, clinics, and career fairs. Spring of 2024 is the expected time frame to open the new facility.
